Important Information for Applicants
Independent contractor status
This recruitment notice is an invitation to join our network of freelance translators. It does not constitute an offer of employment, and joining our translator network does not create an employment, partnership, agency or worker relationship between you and Los Jurados UK Ltd.

Translators engaged by Los Jurados UK Ltd provide services on a self‑employed, independent contractor basis. You are responsible for determining and managing your own tax affairs, National Insurance contributions and any other statutory obligations that apply to self‑employed individuals under UK law.

Nothing in this information or in any subsequent agreement is intended to, or shall be deemed to, establish an employment relationship between you and Los Jurados UK Ltd.

Tax and financial responsibilities
As an independent contractor, you are solely responsible for:
  • Registering as self‑employed with HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC), where required
  • Calculating and paying your own Income Tax and National Insurance contributions through Self Assessment
  • Submitting accurate and timely Self Assessment tax returns
  • Maintaining complete and accurate financial records for your business
  • Complying with all applicable tax, social security and other statutory obligations, including meeting all filing and payment deadlines
Los Jurados UK Ltd does not deduct tax or National Insurance from payments made to translators and accepts no responsibility for your tax position. All payments to translators are made gross (without deductions), and it is your legal obligation to declare this income and pay any taxes and contributions that may be due.

Nothing in this notice constitutes tax, legal or financial advice. You should seek independent professional advice if you are unsure about your obligations.

Data protection and confidentiality
Before commencing any translation work, all translators must enter into and sign a data protection and confidentiality agreement that meets the requirements of the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. This is mandatory because translation work frequently involves processing personal and sometimes special category data.

By signing that agreement you acknowledge and agree to:
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in respect of all client documents and personal data
  • Process personal data only on documented instructions and solely for the purposes of performing the translation services
  • Implement appropriate technical and organisational security measures to protect personal data
  • Comply with applicable UK data protection legislation at all times
  • Promptly report any personal data breach or suspected breach in accordance with our procedures
No translation projects will be assigned until the data protection agreement has been signed. This protects both you and our clients by establishing clear responsibilities for data protection and confidentiality.

Payment terms
Payment for completed translation projects is normally processed between the 25th and 30th of the month following the month in which the work was completed. For example, projects completed in February would usually be paid between 25th and 30th March.
Payment dates may vary depending on client payment terms, bank processing times and specific project circumstances, and time for payment is not of the essence. Details of rates and currency of payment will be notified on a project‑by‑project basis.

No guarantee of work
Acceptance into our translator network does not guarantee:
  • Any minimum volume of work
  • Regular or continuous project assignments
  • Exclusive working arrangements
  • Any fixed income, salary, wage or retainer payments
Allocation of projects depends on factors including client demand, language pairs, subject‑matter requirements, quality, performance history, availability and capacity at any given time. Los Jurados UK Ltd aims to distribute work fairly among suitably qualified translators in the network but cannot commit to any specific volume or frequency of projects.

Project‑by‑project engagement
All assignments are offered on a project‑by‑project basis. Translators are free to accept or decline individual projects at their discretion, subject to any deadlines agreed once a project has been accepted. Similarly, Los Jurados UK Ltd reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to select the most appropriate translator for each project, taking into account qualifications, experience, subject‑matter expertise, quality, availability and project requirements.
Any specific terms relating to an individual assignment (such as fees, deadlines and delivery format) will be confirmed in writing, typically by email or through our project management system, before work starts.

Professional standards and insurance
Translators working with Los Jurados UK Ltd are expected to:
  • Maintain appropriate professional indemnity insurance for their freelance activities
  • Comply with applicable UK data protection and confidentiality requirements, including UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018
  • Maintain appropriate professional standards, including keeping skills and subject‑matter knowledge up to date, and holding relevant qualifications and/or experience for the language combinations and subject areas in which they work
Los Jurados UK Ltd may request evidence of professional indemnity insurance, qualifications or professional memberships (such as ITI, CIOL or ATC) where relevant.

By submitting an application, you confirm that you have read, understood and accept the above terms and that you will comply with all applicable legal and regulatory obligations in the course of providing services to Los Jurados UK Ltd.
Los Jurados UK Ltd is committed to working with professional translators who share our dedication to quality, accuracy and client service excellence.
